Fall Break Destinations

In the heart of October, it can feel like the actual fall season will never arrive. But here’s the upside: fall break is that light at the end of the tunnel that can get you through hot weather and stretches of work weeks with no vacation days in sight. So it’s not surprising that many take advantage of this week-long vacation by traveling with City RV Rentals, even if they’re no longer on an education-regulated schedule. We’ve come up with a few top destinations to get away from it all and enjoy a week in paradise.

Allegany, New York The 65,000-acre Allegany State Park is known for its primitive, forested valleys, un-glaciated landscape, fall leaves, and wildlife. The park's two developed areas, Red House and Quaker, make this the largest state park in New York. Both areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails, and naturalist walks. Walkers, runners, and bicycle riders can take advantage of the five miles of paved trails around Red House. The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has some of the finest groomed cross country skiing and mountain bike trails in the Northeast. Snowmobilers are attracted to Allegany State Park for its 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and over 150 winterized cabins. Other activities include bird watching, picnicking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, and horseback riding.

San Jacinto Mountains, California Most of Mount San Jacinto State Park is wilderness, containing three mountain peaks, higher than 10,000 feet in elevation. The mountain's high point offer spectacular views of nearby desert and mountain ranges. Visitors can ride into the park from the park's west side or ride a tram 2.5 miles up the mountain.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Located in the heart of the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach State Park is one of the most popular public beaches along South Carolina's coast. The park includes a campground, cabins, nearly a mile of beach, picnic areas, a fishing pier and a nature center. This park is a "Discover Carolina Site", which provides curriculum-based science education programs for South Carolina school children.

Rancho Oso, California Bordered by the Los Padres National Forest and Santa Ynez River, Rancho Oso offers acres of beautiful scenery and endless opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, and photography.

New Orleans, Louisiana This KOA makes the Big Easy, well, easy! It's the closest KOA to the French Quarter and the finest food, sassiest jazz and wildest times in the South. It's a great place to recharge or use Wi-Fi in a serene setting with trees, concrete pads and grass. Catch the van (LIMITED) or city buses (about every half hour) to sample the piquant pleasures of real Cajun cooking or the one-of-a-kind charms of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. Bike or hike the trail on the Mississippi levee. Saunter the famous riverbanks and watch the paddle wheelers ferry back and forth like in times gone by. Visit the world-class Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and The National WWII Museum. Let KOA's staff arrange swamp airboat trips or tours to nearby attractions such as plantations, cemeteries and casinos.

Santa Monica Mountains, California Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons, wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The 13,300-acre park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.
