Shady Lake, Mena, Arkansas

Shady Lake offers large, heavily wooded sites, some lakeside, in a campground developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. A trail, open to hikers and mountain bikers, crosses the Shady Lake Dam and Saline Creek. The campground in a mountainous, remote area of the forest has modern bathhouses and a few sites with partial hookups. Shady Lake is a popular 25-acre recreational impoundment in the Ouachita National Forest served by an accompanying U.S. Forest Service recreation area. Game fish found in the lake include largemouth bass, catfish and sunfish species. Only rod-and-reel and pole fishing is allowed. There is a daily catfish limit of five and a bass minimum length of 15 inches or longer.
