Fort Wilderness, Orlando Florida Tips
The Fort Wilderness Campground in Disney, Orlando Florida has beautiful landscaping, lush trees, paved sites with a picnic table, charcoal grill, concrete RV pads to park on with full hookups.
Book early – These sites go fast, and for good reason, so book your site months in advance to score this unique atmosphere. We booked Fort Wilderness Disney Campground eight months in advance and tried to change our dates a couple of months after that and it was full. Six months in advance wasn’t enough. Call after midnight- this sometimes helps. Plan to go in October to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and this was a popular month to camp. The weather is perfect and the crowds in the park are not as busy as summer months. If City RVers are interested in attending Mickey’s BBQ or a dinner show these need to be purchased in advance as well. Everything was sold out on arrival or only the expensive seats were left.
Golf Cart- Request a golf cart. Makes life a lot easier and is great to see the RV's that have the lights and other characters to go with the Disney theme.
Free Tour- Fort Wilderness Lodge was built with an extremely high level of theming and back story, much of which is easily missed. Fortunately Wilderness Lodge is home to one of the few free tours in Disney World. It is about an hour long, and will appeal best to those who love hidden details and American history.
Raising the Flag- Hint: Ask at check in to be the Flag Family. Guests with longer stays have the best shot at finding an opening. Every morning a Flag Family is chosen to raise the flags above Wilderness Lodge. Early in the morning, your family will be guided to the roof by one of the Rangers. Once there you will get to raise the American flag along with several others. But the view of the rest of Disney World from the roof is what makes this a truly special experience.
